Keo Savoy

Origin and History:

  • The Keo Savoy mango is a Thai variety, also spelled Keow Savoy, Khao Savoey, Kiew Sa Waei, Khiew Savoy, or Kyo Savoy.
  • It’s considered a “standard of quality” for mature green mangoes and is a popular variety in Southeast Asia. 

Fruit Characteristics:

  • Size and Shape: Medium-sized, oblong, and slender.
  • Skin: Typically dark green, even when ripe, and may develop a light yellow hue at full maturity. It has a smooth skin and may have permanent “stitches” on the skin.
  • Flesh: Firm, juicy, and fiberless with a light yellow to yellow-orange color.
  • Flavor: The Keo Savoy is unique because it’s delicious both green and ripe.
    • Green: Crunchy, sweet, and not sour. Some describe a flavor reminiscent of green apple, orange, and toasted macadamia nuts.
    • Ripe: Very sweet, floral, and without any tartness. Some describe a lemony flavor.
  • Seed: Polyembryonic. 

Tree Characteristics:

  • Size: Moderately vigorous grower with a vertical, open canopy.
  • Production: Generally a good producer.
  • Season: Early to mid-season, typically ripening from June to July in Florida. Some sources say it is a late-season mango ripening in October.
  • Disease Resistance: Good anthracnose resistance.
